TWSP Raising Awareness of Exploitation and Vulnerability

Safeguarding children, young people and vulnerable adults is everybody’s responsibility. This Raising Awareness of Exploitation and Vulnerability course aims to increase the delegate’s knowledge of the vulnerability factors and the varying areas of exploitation. The course focuses on county lines, human trafficking, sexual exploitation and modern slavery and aims to upskill professionals to feel confident in recognising the signs and symptoms of exploitation and to know how to report concerns, ensuring best practice is embraced.

The course objectives are to:

  • highlight personal and situational factors of vulnerability and the impact these have on risk and harm
  • understand the definitions covering vulnerability, exploitation and sexual exploitation, modern day slavery and human trafficking.
  • develop an understanding of indicators that may show within various forms of exploitation
  • identify the key considerations necessary when receiving a disclosure and the impact of trauma on any disclosure
  • understand the individuals professional accountability and responsibility for sharing under GDPR
  • recognise the importance of documentation and record keeping in the effective protection of those identified as vulnerable, ensuring non-victim blaming language is used
  • understand the process to get the right help, at the right time, for the identified vulnerable person(s)

 

On completion of the course delegates will be able to:

  • identify the vulnerability factors
  • explain the various forms of exploitation
  • recognise the signs, symptoms and indicators of the various forms of exploitation
  • understand exploitation and vulnerability and how it impacts on a young person in respect of trauma
  • know how to respond, record and report concerns and how to signpost

 

This course is free.

Target audience: Anyone who requires an understanding of vulnerability and exploitation. A basic knowledge of raising awareness of safeguarding is required to fully benefit from the course.
